Botox, short for Botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When used in cosmetic procedures, it temporarily paralyzes muscles, effectively reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Botox blocks nerve signals to the muscles, preventing them from contracting. This relaxation of muscles results in smoother skin and diminished wrinkles, giving the face a more youthful appearance.
